Robert Davidson - Drums
Born in the 60’s, Rob grew up in the age of vinyl, cassette tapes and listening to the BBC’s chart show on Sunday night radio. If you wanted to listen to your favourite music when you wanted to, you had to buy the record.
Early influences for Rob were Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Who, Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd and Talking Heads – amongst others. Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, the Newcastle City Hall was the biggest live music venue around. Sitting only a few hundred people, it was (and still is) an intimate and atmospheric venue to start watching live bands. Rob witnessed diverse live acts such as Blondie, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult and the legendary Lindisfarne Christmas concerts. Although a music fan, Rob never found time to play an instrument but always had a fascination for the drums. A few years ago Rob decided to scratch the itch and bought a rudimentary electric kit and began to practice. Teaching himself how to play by playing along to Spotify playlists, he gradually built his skills. Several kit upgrades later, including the addition of an acoustic kit, Rob began playing with other musicians and started to gig. Certainly an old rock n roller, Rob’s musical tastes expanded into blues and soul music. His love of music and performing live continue with Kaya Band. |
